What are the emerging fashion capitals around the world?
Fashion globally is always going to be booming and there are a number of cities rising through the ranks to rival New York and Paris as fashion capitals globally. Places like Seoul, Copenhagen and Mexico City are thriving. However, for me, there is one clear city emerging from the pack, Melbourne.
Why Melbourne Is Australia's Fashion Capital
Melbourne is rapidly emerging as a fashion capital not only in Australia, but globally. Melbourne is home to a historical creative scene, diverse style influences, and strong support for local designers and businesses. Melbourne celebrates its local heroes, success stories and innovators with brands like Jali Australia bringing Melbournians high-quality products and ethical craftsmanship.
Known for its unique fashion culture, Melbourne blends history, music, and multicultural influences into its own identity. Its status is further cemented by prestigious events like the Melbourne Fashion Festival, which attracts top designers and trendsetters from around the world.
Whilst attending the Melbourne Fashion Festival 2025, I noticed a clear push towards adding leather goods to both new style trends and classic looks. Some of these included the use of –
Leather Crossbody Bags – Stylish crossbody were everywhere at the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Having the ability to have our hands free, whilst living busy lives are so important! Doing so with a luxury, yet comfortable accessory is even more important!

Hobo Bags – Hobo bags are definitely my new favourite! I love that they are so easy to pair with any outfit, they always have so much space and they can be used for absolutely any occasion. They were absolutely everywhere at Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Leather Phone Cases – Gone are the days of cheap plastic phone cases to protect your $2000 iPhone. People are now looking after tech and doing so in fashionable, high quality, durable ways. Stylish leather phone cases are definitely trending in 2025.
